OVP HEALTH has partnered with community hospitals across Appalachia to provide top-quality emergency department staffing and management services since Dr. Robert Hess and Dr. Stephen Shy founded the company in 1999. But don’t let anyone at OVP HEALTH hear you refer to it as a staffing company.

OVP HEALTH got its start in 1999, when Dr. Robert Hess and Dr. Stephen Shy left a large physician practice in Huntington, WV, to help a struggling hospital in Ironton, OH, by running its emergency department. Their fledgling company, Ohio Valley Physicians, would later add hospitalist care to its service offerings, and eventually, the company’s steady growth outside of the Ohio River Valley would necessitate a name change to OVP HEALTH.
