The OVP HEALTH Difference: PARTNERSHIP

When Dr. Robert Hess and his late partner, Dr. Stephen Shy, started OVP HEALTH in 1999, they understood that their fledgling company’s success would be totally dependent on the success of the hospitals they served. If those hospitals weren’t successful, OVP HEALTH wouldn’t succeed, either.

They also understood that running a successful Emergency Department or Hospitalist Program would require much more than just finding available physicians and advanced practice providers to fill open slots on a schedule. It would require an “all-in” commitment to be a true partner with their hospital clients.

That would mean employing full-time physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners to live, work, and serve in the communities surrounding those hospitals; hiring on-site administrators to manage those providers, enhance communication, and serve as helpful liaisons between the hospitals and OVP HEALTH staff; participating on hospital boards, medical executive committees, and work groups to drive improvement in processes, quality outcomes, and patient experiences; and working in a spirit of unity and collaboration to align OVP HEALTH’s goals and objectives with those of its hospital partners.

“I think the biggest thing that sets OVP HEALTH apart is that we’re not a staffing company. We have on-site administrators at each of our partner hospitals, who manage the emergency department and hospitalist programs, and work with the hospital administration and providers to align goals and objectives, and address any issues.”

Robert A. Hess, MD, FAAFP

Co-Owner, Co-Founder, and President

“When you contract with OVP HEALTH, you have an active partner in providing the quality care we all strive to provide. We work closely with the hospital administration and hospital teams to provide the best possible experience for patients.”

Stacey Shy

Chief Executive Office, OVP HEALTH

“We don’t take a cookie-cutter approach. Where we are excellent is in working with our individual partner facilities to identify their unique challenges and opportunities, and then working beside them to address those.”

Thomas Rittinger, MD

Chief Medical Officer & Director of Hospital Medicine

“We certainly view OVP HEALTH as a partner. At least two OVP emergency physicians have seats on our Medical Executive Committee, and other OVP providers are on our many quality improvement committees. They are active participants in the care of our patients.”

Rodney Stout, MD

Chief Executive Officer, Holzer Health System

“Many companies can find providers to fill a shift. That’s the kind of company we strive not to be. We want to be engrained into the hospital to work on quality initiatives. Our goals should be your goals, and your goals should be our goals. We want to be in lock-step with our hospital partners to ensure we are meeting the objectives of the hospital, the health system, the community, and the government.”

Nick Alexander

President, OVP HEALTH Acute Care Services

“The medical director for the OVP HEALTH Hospitalist Group at our hospital is also the president of our medical staff right now. He’s highly engaged and understands, from our perspective, where we want to drive quality and service. The medical director of our emergency department is also an OVP HEALTH physician, who is very engaged and a member of our Medical Executive Committee. So, having that partnership with the leads on each of those services, as well as from our on-site OVP HEALTH administrator, makes it feel very seamless, and that OVP HEALTH is part of our team and not just a contractor.”

Wendy Elliot

Chief Executive Officer, OhioHealth Southeastern Medical Center
